Book Reccomendation!

I just finished up a great read by Mike Clelland, called Ultralight Backpackin’ Tips: 153 Amazing and Inexpensive Tips for Extremely Lightweight Camping. Mike did the illustrations for Allen O’Bannon’s book, Allen & Mike’s Really Cool Backpackin’ Book: Traveling & Camping Skills for a Wilderness Environment and Don Ladigin’s Book, Lighten Up! A Complete Handbook for Light and Ultralight Backpacking. All three of these books are great reads and a really fun introduction to the world of lightweight and ultra lightweight backpacking.

I previously bought Lighten Up! and have added this new book to it as my favorite reads for backpacking. Both are chock full of not just technical information and options but also an in depth look at the mindset needed to go ultralight. A mindset, I would posit, is truly your most important piece of gear. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering ultralight backpacking before you make any other purchase. They’ve saved me a lot of money and kept me from being dragged into the ultra expensive side of ultralight backpacking.
